Completion of the container will vary depending on your design, additions, size of container, and other factors, but the average build time takes around two to three months for a 40 foot container. Barebones models will take less time.
How will my retreat be delivered?

How much will it cost to deliver my retreat?
Delivery costs will depend on the distance the site location is from our shop in Brighton, CO. Delivery costs are around $2-3 per mile, but delivery quotes will be figured out during final sale agreement.
Where is Walker Wilderness Located?
Walker Wilderness Enterprises is located in Brighton, Co near the South Platte River. We build all of our Retreats on site in our shop to make sure they are completed before they are exposed to the outdoors.
Are the containers insulated?
Yes! Our containers are very well insulated to keep you comfortable inside, while being able to choose the exterior color of your choice. We use closed cell spray foam insulation, which has an R-value of R-7 per inch. We spray between 3-5 inches of insulation on the walls and ceiling of the container. We also spray between the metal and the interior framing to prevent condensation between the metal walls and the framing. Spray foam insulation also adds to the framing in terms of rigidity to make the container stronger and less likely to twist and damage finishings during transport and placement.
Are the original floors Treated?
We cover the original floors with off-gasing sealer to prevent any vapors from entering the living space. We do this because some of the floors of containers are treated with chemicals to keep pests and bugs out.
Do I need a permit for my retreat?
This depends on the location of the container. You may want to check on building and zoning requirements through your local county and city. Some may require permits where other may not.
Does my container have water, sewer, and power hook ups?
Yes. Containers will have wastewater plumbing hook ups, unless the container has a compostable toilet, main breaker box for hooking up to utilities, and fresh water hook up as well. These connections can vary depending on additions or off grid systems.
Will the metal rust on my retreat?
Containers that we use are made of COR-TEN® steel, which is a type of steel that rusts at a much slower rate than other types of steel. So the container will eventually rust some, but will take a much longer time to rust. If rust existed on the container prior to building, we grind off the flaking rust and coat it with a rust convertor than prevents further rusting and makes the area hard again. Then we paint the container with a high quality paint to shield the metal from the elements and make the container look new once again! If we use a one-trip container for your retreat rust will no be an issue since the container is almost new.
Does walker wilderness place the retreat and lay the foundation?
We do all the building of the container house at our site, but we can suggest contractors that we know locally that can help with these items or we can provide the information on what you will need to do for your container. Containers don't need to be on foundations, but check with your local requirements.
